In fall 2006, the University enrolled 20,261 on-campus students (17,842 undergraduate and 2,419 graduate) from all 50 states and 69 countries. The largest segment of the undergraduate student body, 54 percent, come from the Chicago area and surrounding collar counties; an additional 22 percent come from central Illinois.

In Fall 2006:
The average ACT score for new beginning freshmen was 23.9
Seventy-eight percent of new beginning freshmen were from the top half of their high school graduating class.
Ninety-two percent of the undergraduates were between 17 and 24 years of age, eight percent (1,411) were 25 or older
Average age of full time graduate students was 27, for part time graduate students, the average age was 35.
Of the 2,419 graduate students, fifty-four percent were part time; sixty-four percent were women; nine percent were minorities and thirteen percent were international students.
